The Buzz about Electric Toothbrushes

Taking a walk down the oral care aisle at the grocery store or drug store can be a daunting task when you are shopping for a toothbrush. There are so many to choose from. There are dozens of different styles of bristles, angles, handles, etc., for manual brushes and now there are almost as many styles and brands for electric, or battery powered, toothbrushes. All of these claim to be your best line of defense in fighting tooth decay and keeping your oral health top notch.

What do these electric toothbrushes really offer that a manual brush cannot? As technology changes and improves, so does the ability of these specialized brushes to get between teeth and really attack the plaque that accumulates on your pearly whites. These brushes are actually better for your gums and their health as well. A manual brush can only be as effective as the user allows it to be, while an electric toothbrush brings its own power to the patient.

When looking for an electric toothbrush, you should search for a brand that boasts a round brush head. A round brush head can adjust to each individual tooth. Make sure the brush has a strong vibration, as the pulsating action of the brush really works to break up the plaque on each tooth and in between teeth. Also, look for a brand that comes with a timer, preferably around two minutes, so that you can sufficiently brush each time you use it.

Of course, in order to get the most out of your electric brush, you must carefully read the instructions and make sure you are using it and caring for it correctly. Angling the brush in the right direction and spending adequate time in each area are key to making the brush work for you.
